Veritrade Methodology
How Verification Works
How Veritrade verifies trading profiles using read-only broker access, account ownership challenges, and deterministic trade reconstruction. This document explains exactly how the system works, what it can verify, and what it honestly cannot.
Last updated: May 15, 2026 · Version 1.1
1. What Veritrade Verifies
Veritrade provides broker-verified trading profiles for retail traders. Here is exactly what we verify and how.
Trading data authenticity
Trading history is sourced directly from broker APIs using read-only investor access credentials. Data cannot be manually edited, manipulated, or cherry-picked.
- You provide read-only investor password (not your master/trading password)
- We connect to your broker via secure API
- Trading history syncs automatically every hour
- All deals, positions, and equity data come directly from broker servers
Account connectivity
Verified accounts maintain active connection to broker platforms. Connection status is monitored continuously. If a trader disconnects their account, the profile immediately shows this. Hidden losses are impossible.
Data freshness
Every profile displays a last-sync timestamp. Stale or disconnected accounts are clearly labeled with warnings.
Account control verification
Account owners demonstrate terminal access via a verification challenge during initial setup. The system generates a unique code that the account owner must place in a pending order or open position comment field field. This is detected via the broker API.
What this proves: You have access to the trading terminal, you can modify account settings, and you controlled the account at the time of connection.
What this does not prove: Long-term ownership, legal identity, or source of funds.
2. What Veritrade Does Not Verify
It is equally important to understand our limitations.
Trader identity
We do not verify legal name, age, location, government ID, or KYC/AML compliance. Veritrade is a data verification service, not a financial institution. We verify trading data, not trader identity.
Future performance
Past trading results have no bearing on future outcomes. All trading involves substantial risk of loss. Historical performance is not predictive. No profile should be interpreted as investment advice.
Ongoing ownership
Account control verification proves terminal access at the time of connection, not continuous ownership. Someone could borrow account access to verify, then transfer the account. Or they might use a prop firm account (company capital, not theirs).
Our safeguard: we display continuity tracking. Recent verification (less than 7 days) signals a less established account. Long continuity (180+ days) is a stronger trust signal.
Source of funds
We do not verify where capital came from, beneficial ownership, funding legitimacy, or account registration details.
Regulatory compliance
We do not verify trading licenses, professional certifications, compliance with local regulations, or broker legitimacy.
3. The Verification Process
Step 1: Secure connection
You provide read-only investor credentials. An investor password is different from your master/trading password. It allows viewing account data only and cannot place trades, withdraw funds, or modify settings. Your broker provides this in the terminal settings. Credentials are encrypted in transit and at rest. We connect via MetaAPI's secure infrastructure with zero access to your funds or trading capabilities.
Step 2: Data synchronization
Trading history is pulled directly from broker servers. We sync all deals (buys, sells, closes), position history, equity snapshots over time, account balance changes, and commissions and swaps. Free tier syncs every hour; Pro tier every 5 minutes. Raw broker data is stored unchanged. Metrics are computed from raw data. No manual editing is possible.
Step 3: Account control verification
The system generates a unique code (for example, VT-X8K4P). You add this code to your MT4 or MT5 pending order or open position comment field.
Trade → New Order → Pending Order → Comment (MT5/desktop).
For MT4 mobile, use desktop or MT5 if possible.
A background worker checks the broker API every 30 seconds. If the code is detected within 30 minutes, verification is confirmed. Only the account owner can modify order/position comments, so this proves terminal access.
Step 4: Public profile generation
Your verified profile goes live at veritrade.io/u/[your-username]. It is public, non-editable (data is broker-sourced), and displays real-time trust state.
Step 5: Continuous monitoring
Connection health is tracked 24/7. After 48 hours without sync the profile shows a soft warning. After 7 days it shows "data may be outdated." After 30 days verification is suspended. This prevents traders from hiding losses by disconnecting.
4. How We Build Trades From Broker Data
When you place a trade in MT4 or MT5, you think of it as one thing: "I bought EUR/USD, then I sold it."
But your broker does not store it that way. Your broker stores individual deals— separate events:
- Deal 1: BUY EUR/USD at 1.1000 (you opened a position)
- Deal 2: SELL EUR/USD at 1.1050 (you closed that position)
To Veritrade, that is not 2 things — that is 1 round-trip trade with $50 profit. We need to group these deals back together into trades. We call this reconstruction.
Think of it like watching security camera footage. The camera records individual frames, but you reconstruct what actually happened by connecting them in the right order.
The three methods, in order of reliability
- Method 1: POSITION_ID — Highest reliability
- Some brokers (mostly MT5) attach a unique position ID to every deal. If two deals share the same position ID, they belong to the same trade. This is 100% reliable. The broker is literally telling us "these belong together."
- Method 2: TICKET_CHAIN — Medium reliability
- If position IDs are not provided, we look at ticket numbers. Sometimes a closing deal references the original opening deal's ticket number. Still reliable, but requires one step of inference.
- Method 3: HEURISTIC — Lower reliability
- If neither of the above is available (common on older MT4 accounts), we use logical rules: same symbol, opposite direction, matching volume, close in time. This is educated guessing. The trades still happened — we just had to work harder to identify which deals belong together.
Why we tell you which method was used
Every Veritrade profile shows the Reconstruction Method and Confidence Level. This is unique to Veritrade. Other trading platforms show you numbers without explaining how they were assembled.
This is NOT a trader rating. A trader with LOW confidence is not a bad trader. It just means their broker did not provide strong identifiers, so we had to use weaker grouping methods. The actual trades happened. The data is real. We are just being honest about how we reconstructed them.
5. Understanding Reconstruction Confidence
Every profile shows one of three confidence levels.
- HIGH Confidence
- All trades reconstructed using broker-provided position IDs. We are 100% certain how deals group together. Most common on MT5 accounts.
- MEDIUM Confidence
- Some trades used ticket-chain relationships instead of position IDs. Still reliable, but requires one step of inference.
- LOW Confidence
- At least one trade required heuristic (timing-based) grouping. Most common on older MT4 accounts that do not track position IDs.
Why we always show the worst case
If a profile has 99 trades reconstructed with HIGH confidence and just 1 trade reconstructed with LOW confidence, the overall confidence shows LOW.
This is intentional. Trust infrastructure should always display its weakest link, not its strongest. Pessimistic transparency is more trustworthy than optimistic averages.
6. Understanding The Numbers You See
When you read a Veritrade profile, every number has a precise meaning. Here is what each one actually represents.
"Verified Realized PnL" (not just "PnL")
- Verified: Data came directly from your broker
- Realized: Only counts closed trades (not still-open positions)
- PnL: Profit and Loss
We use the full label because vague labels enable confusion. Other platforms show "Total Profit: $12,000" without telling you whether that includes still-open positions (which can swing wildly).
"Verified Performance Curve" (not "Equity Curve")
Shows your balance over time, including only realized (closed) profits and losses. We do not call it an "Equity Curve" because true equity includes the unrealized value of open positions, which we do not yet track. Calling it "Equity Curve" when it is actually a balance curve would be misleading. We chose precision over polish.
Win Rate
Closed winning trades divided by total closed trades. Break-even trades (exactly $0 profit) are excluded from both sides. Open trades are not counted.
Max Drawdown
The biggest drop from a previous peak balance to a subsequent low. Shown in both dollar amount and as a percentage of peak. Represents the worst losing period in the trader's history.
Profit Factor
Gross profit divided by gross loss. Above 1.0 means more profit than loss. 2.0 means profits were double the losses. Shown as "—" if there were no losses (mathematically undefined).
7. Risk Signals — Evidence, Not Ratings
Every Veritrade profile shows Risk Signals. These are not scores or grades. We do not believe in rating traders with numbers like "Risk Score: 78/100" or letter grades like "B+". Such scores create false confidence and oversimplify complex behavior.
Instead, we show measurable evidence of the trader's behavior. You decide what it means.
The three signals we show
1. Position Size Discipline
Largest single position, average position, ratio between them (e.g., "5.0× average"), and times exceeded 3× the average. Reveals whether the trader sized trades consistently or occasionally bet much larger than usual.
2. Loss Recovery Pattern
Longest losing streak and largest single loss (in dollars and as percentage of peak balance). Reveals how the trader handled bad periods and how large their worst outcomes were.
3. Holding Time Pattern
Average holding time, longest position held (with symbol), shortest position held. Reveals whether they are a scalper, day trader, or swing trader, and whether their style is consistent or chaotic.
Why we do not use scores
A "Risk Score: 78/100" sounds authoritative but means nothing. Who decided 78? Based on what weights? Why is 78 better than 65? Numbers without methodology are theater. We give you facts. You form your own interpretation.
8. Audit Trail
For every single deal we sync from your broker, Veritrade keeps:
- The original broker data — exactly as it came from the broker, unchanged
- The reconstructed trade — how we grouped that deal with other deals
- The reconstruction method used — POSITION_ID, TICKET_CHAIN, or HEURISTIC
- The trade's unique ID — visible on every row (e.g., #A82F19B2)
Why this matters
If we ever make a reconstruction mistake, we can replay the entire process using the original data and produce identical output. This is called deterministic reconstruction.
Every trade is independently traceable. Nothing can be quietly altered without record.
What other platforms typically do
Most trading platforms receive broker data, compute metrics, and then discard the original. Veritrade does not discard anything. Original broker payloads are preserved permanently as JSON.
Trust infrastructure must be auditable. If you cannot retrace how a number was produced, you cannot verify it. Black-box trust is not trust — it is faith.
9. What About Open Positions?
Honest current limitation:
Veritrade currently tracks only closed positions — trades that have been opened and closed. We do not yet track currently open positions, floating profit/loss (unrealized gains or losses), or equity changes from active positions.
A concrete example
Imagine a trader with $10,000 in closed trades earning +$1,000 profit (we track this), and a $5,000 currently open position showing −$500 floating loss (we do not track this).
Their true real-time equity is $10,500. Their balance is $11,000. The $500 difference is the unrealized floating loss on the open position. Veritrade shows $11,000 because that is the verified, realized balance.
Why we tell you this openly
Other platforms might silently include open position values without explaining, or use different definitions of "equity" without clarifying. Veritrade tells you exactly what is included and what is not. We chose the label "Verified Performance Curve" specifically because it does not claim to be a true equity curve.
Future versions will track open positions and floating PnL. For now, we would rather be precise than appear more comprehensive than we actually are.
Trust infrastructure principle: honest limitations beat misleading completeness.
10. Understanding Trust States
Every verified profile displays one of four trust states based on recent sync activity.
- ACTIVELast sync < 48 hours
- Account is actively syncing. Data is current. Trader cannot hide recent activity.
- DELAYEDLast sync 48h–7d ago
- Soft warning shown. Could indicate broker API maintenance, expired credentials, or a temporary connection issue.
- STALELast sync 7–30 days ago
- Data is likely outdated. May indicate intentional disconnection, changed credentials, or compromised verification integrity.
- DISCONNECTEDLast sync > 30 days ago
- Verification suspended. No current verification. Historical data preserved with warning. Continuity streak broken.
11. Data Security & Privacy
Can Veritrade access my funds?
No. Read-only investor credentials provide view-only access to account history, current positions, and balance changes. They cannot place trades, withdraw funds, modify account settings, or change passwords.
What data do you store?
We store:
- Trading history (deals, positions, PnL)
- Account metrics (win rate, drawdown, etc.)
- Equity snapshots (balance over time)
- Sync logs (audit trail)
We do not store:
- Your master/trading password
- Government IDs
- Financial credentials beyond investor password
- Personal contact information beyond email for account
Can I delete my data?
Yes. You can disconnect accounts anytime (profile shows disconnected state) or request full account deletion. Personal info is removed immediately; raw trading data is retained for 90 days for fraud prevention (GDPR legitimate interest), then purged.
Who can see my profile?
Public profiles are visible to anyone with the URL. Private mode is not available; private verification defeats the trust model. Veritrade is a transparency platform by design.
Can I hide individual trades?
No. This is intentional. Selective disclosure equals manipulation. If you can hide losing trades, verification is meaningless. Your options are to disconnect the account (profile shows disconnected) or delete the account entirely.
12. Limitations & Disclaimers
Risk disclosure
Trading involves substantial risk of loss. Past performance is not indicative of future results. Veritrade provides data verification services only and does not provide investment advice, trading recommendations, performance endorsements, or broker recommendations. All trading decisions are the sole responsibility of the individual trader.
Technical limitations
Verification requires broker API availability. Sync delays are possible during broker maintenance. Some brokers may have data export limitations. We display data exactly as provided by the broker; broker-side errors are outside our control. Timestamp precision depends on broker systems.
No guarantee
Veritrade makes no guarantee regarding future trading performance, accuracy of broker-provided data, availability of broker APIs, trader skill or profitability, or account security.
13. Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between demo and real accounts?
Real accounts use actual capital. Demo accounts use practice money. We verify both, but demo accounts are clearly labeled with warnings. Demo performance does not prove real trading ability.
Can I verify multiple accounts?
Free tier: 1 account. Pro tier: up to 3 accounts. Multiple accounts from the same trader are grouped under one profile.
What brokers are supported?
Currently MT4 and MT5 via MetaAPI. Coming soon: Binance, cTrader, and other futures/crypto platforms.
How long does verification take?
Initial setup: 2–5 minutes. Verification challenge: up to 10 minutes (usually under 3 minutes). First sync: 10–30 minutes depending on account history size. Ongoing syncs run automatically every hour (Pro: every 5 min).
Can I pause verification temporarily?
No. Verification is continuous or disconnected. Allowing "pause" would enable hiding losses. The trust model requires continuous visibility or clear disconnection.
What does "reconstruction confidence" mean?
It is how reliably we grouped your broker's individual deals back into trades. HIGH means the broker gave us strong identifiers. LOW means we had to use logical guessing. It is not a rating of you as a trader.
Why don't you show open positions?
Tracking open positions requires real-time streaming infrastructure that we have not built yet. We chose to launch with closed-position accuracy first, rather than ship something incomplete. We would rather show you a smaller picture truthfully than a bigger picture that might mislead.
14. Privacy & Identity Controls
Traders can hide monetary values on their public profile and show percentages instead of dollar amounts. Win rate, drawdown percentages, and ratios remain visible either way, because they are part of the verification signal rather than a cash display choice.
Verified Telegram and X handles help defend against impersonation. When a profile shows linked handles, visitors have a concrete way to confirm they are dealing with the right person before they take any action off-platform.
Public descriptions are optional. Traders can use them to explain who they are, what they do, and how someone can verify that it is really them. If they do not want to publish a description, they can hide it and show a neutral placeholder instead.
Every public profile also carries an anti-impersonation banner. It reminds visitors that Veritrade verifies trades, not sellers, and that they should always verify through the linked handles before transacting with anyone.
Founding Member program
Veritrade is bootstrapped. The first 20 founding members support infrastructure costs in exchange for a permanent recognition badge on their profile. Once filled, the program closes — standard signup remains free.
